“I would like all those men and boys…to stand up against violence against women,” Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said during the 2013 Social Good Summit Sunday.
She explained that men can make a difference by “tweeting about it, hosting conversations, fighting against those sites that abuse women.”
Technology, she stressed, provides open access to education, which can help end violence. When information is available through open sources online, more people have the means to educate themselves.
Mlambo-Ngcuka sat on the opening panel of the summit, The Next 15 Years: How will technology, data and digital media shape our world?
During the same panel, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway explained that young people are aware of the social divide and are increasingly using social media as a platform to exchange ideas.
“Young people want to be involved and really want to have their voice heard,” she said.
